MacMillan enjoyed a breakout performance in his first game covering for Davidson, scoring a career-high 12 points on 5/7 shooting in the 78-75 win over Perth almost two weeks ago.
He also racked up four rebounds, four blocks and two steals in 22 minutes off the bench.
With Davidson expected to remain sidelined for a few more weeks, MacMillan will be counted on for more productive displays on court in Larry Davidson's absence.
"To have a team, you need everyone contributing, and Auryn's been working his tail off in practice to get an opportunity to play," McLeod said.
"He's coming into a new rotation where guys are used to playing together, and he has to get over the top of those guys. We spoke to him a few weeks ago about being patient and continuing to work hard, because his chance would come at some stage.
"He took his chance and made a valuable contribution. His physicality around the rim . . . he bumped and rebounded and finished off. He gave us an inside presence.
"It's really pleasing for him because he's worked so hard since day one. It's great for him to get the recognition."
MacMillan and his teammates are looking forward to getting back on court for the New Year's Eve home game against the Melbourne Tigers.
The Hawks will be playing their first game in 16 days.
