Although the queues seen in Sydney’s major shopping precincts were absent from Shellharbour, crowd numbers picked up from a trickle early in the day to a flood by mid-morning.
Warilla mum Kaylie McCormack beat the crowds and manage to snag a good car park - a feat that became increasingly difficult as the day progressed.
‘‘We got up here really early, we got a good car park, then about 9am or 10am a million people arrived,’’ she said.
Clothing and electronics were among the most popular items sought by shoppers, with stores such as JB Hi-Fi and Parliament Clothing bulging with customers.
Shopping centres across the rest of the region will open for post-Christmas sales on Thursday.
