Motorists face slow journey south

Traffic remains heavy at Albion Park Rail and the Kiama bends as holidaymakers continue the slow journey down the South Coast.

Lake Illawarra police say no accidents have been reported on the route south of Dapto, however the sheer volume of traffic is leading to bottlenecks.

At Berry, there is a two-kilometre queue of vehicles and motorists are being warned of delays.

Daytime holiday traffic on the main trail south has been at a snail’s pace since Boxing Day.

Meantime, police are continuing to target speeding, drink driving, seatbelt and other traffic offences across the state.

Operation Safe Arrival began last Friday and will end midnight Friday, January 4.

Eight people have died on NSW roads this holiday season, which is five less than last year.
