11pm UPDATE: The weather bureau has cancelled a severe wind warning for the Illawarra.
Winds have eased over the southern ranges and adjacent districts, but the BoM advised that the situation would continue to be monitored and further warnings issued if necessary.
2.30pm UPDATE: The weather bureau has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds in the Illawarra.
At 2.30pm, the bureau issued a warning for people in the Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts.
Damaging winds around 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100km/h are forecast for the Southern Tablelands and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts and parts of the Illawarra, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains forecast districts, with gusts of up to 110km/h possible around the Alpine peaks.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
The next warning will be issued by the bureau at 11pm.
