After sweltering through 43 degree heat yesterday, the Illawarra woke to a dramatic change in temperature this morning.
The southerly swept through the region late last night, with the mercury at Albion Park dropping from 35.9 degrees at 10.30pm to 24.1 degrees at 12.30pm.
The temperature at Albion Park has continued to decline this morning, with the mercury registering 18.2 degrees at 9am.
Yesterday, early morning swimmers at Austinmer pool were greeted by a spectacular sunrise, as they took a dip before temperatures peaked around 2pm.
This morning, however, dawn brought nothing but grey skies and a brisk wind for those enjoying their morning swim in the ocean pool.
The fire risk in the Illawarra and South Coast has been downgraded from catastrophic to high, but a total fire ban remains in place.
