4.30pm UPDATE: More than 180 firefighters are working to contain the fire burning 12km west of Sussex Inlet, which has destroyed more than 8400 hectares of bushland.
There is no immediate threat to properties, however there is a potential threat to Wandandian and Bendalong in the event of a fire escaping under north-west winds.
A southerly change is due late tomorrow morning, with smoke expected to impact the Princes Highway.
The highway remains open, but this is subject to fire conditions.
2.10pm UPDATE: Firefighters are still battling the out-of-control blaze at Wandandian. The bushfire, which began on Monday, has burned through more than 8400 hectares.
The towns of Sussex Inlet and Wandandian could be further impacted by the fire in the coming days, with temperatures set to soar to the late 30s tomorrow.
The Princes Highway is open but a reduced speed limit of 60km/h is in place.

The onset of strong winds and higher temperatures today and tomorrow is expected to bring challenging conditions for firefighters.
The NSW Rural Fire Service has urged residents in Sussex Inlet and Wandandian to remain vigilant.
A total fire ban is in place across NSW and the fire danger warning for the Illawarra and Shoalhaven is severe.
The Princes Highway is open in both directions, however, motorists are advised that the closures could occur throughout the day.
