Showgirls vie for Kiama ambassador role

Carnival rides, stunt teams, animal shows, street theatre, exhibitions, competitions and fireworks are among the many highlights of the 165th Kiama Show later this month.

But the star of this year's show will be the 50th Kiama Showgirl competition.

The Royal Agricultural Society and Kiama Show conducted the first Miss Kiama Showgirl Quest in 1963.

Entrants are judged on their rural and community knowledge, personality, ambition and involvement in rural affairs.

The winner becomes Kiama's ambassador for the show and contests the Agricultural Societies Council zone final of the Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition.

This year's entrants are Andria Binkins, Lauren Corradini, Kathryn Cullen and Laura Morgan.

They agreed that the experience of the competition had already been overwhelming.

"I'm not in it to win it," Miss Binkins said. "I entered for the experience, and I have gained a lot already."

The Kiama Show will be held on Friday, January 25, and Saturday, January 26, at the Kiama Showground and will be open from 8.30am to 10.30pm both days.
