Man's arm crushed at Shellharbour Myer site

A construction worker on the new Myer department store site at Shellharbour has been rushed to hospital after a 500kg steel beam fell on his arm.

The man was operating a cherry picker about 11am when the beam fell and landed on his forearm, causing serious injuries including breaks to both major bones.

Ambulance paramedics treated the man on site; he was later airlifted from the Shellharbour Hospital helipad to St George Hospital, where he is expected to undergo surgery.

The man was aiding the construction of the new Myer department store roof, part of the Stockland Shellharbour complex.

It is believed his arm was resting on the cherry picker railing when the beam fell.
