Three injured, horse dies in crash at Moss Vale

A woman has been airlifted to hospital following an accident between a car and a truck at Moss Vale earlier today.

Emergency services were called to the scene, at the intersection of the Illawarra Highway and Camaroo Lane, around 12.30pm.

The female driver of the car, aged around 40, was trapped in the car for a period of time. She suffered neck, head and chest injuries and was airlifted by the medical rescue helicopter to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition, a spokesperson for the Ambulance Service of NSW said.

A 10-year-old girl, who was in the car, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bowral Hospital in a stable condition.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries as was also expected to be transported to Bowral Hospital.

The truck was carrying three horses, one of which died at the scene.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the Illawarra Highway at Moss Vale.

The highway remains closed in both directions at Camaroo Lane.

It is expected to stay closed until at least 5pm. 

Eastbound motorists are advised to continue up the Hume Highway, onto the Old Hume Highway, then take Berrima Road through Moss Vale.

Westbound motorists should use Berrima Road, the Old Hume Highway and the Hume Highway.
