In just days, their precious garden play space has twice been trashed by callous vandals in night-time raids on their Warilla preschool.
The youngsters had spent hours nurturing vegetables and flowers, gaining pleasure from seeing their hard work blossom.
Leaving behind a trail of destruction, the vandals trampled garden beds, smashed lovingly built decorations and scrawled tasteless graffiti around the premises.
Warilla Pre-School and Occasional Care Centre director Carlie Page said the first incident was discovered on Monday morning. Vandals had ripped 12 trees out of the garden, broken a shade sail and stolen an outdoor CD player.
"It's very disappointing when we've put in so much heart and effort into making it a beautiful environment," Ms Page said.
"We've tried to make it a whole group experience, so the children have put in just as much effort as the staff to make it beautiful and to care for their plants."
Staff arriving at the centre yesterday morning found evidence of a second raid, very similar to the first.
"The children had made toadstools that they'd painted themselves and put in the fairy garden - they were all broken and smashed," Ms Page said.
"The fairy flower beds were all trampled and there were just toys thrown everywhere."
Ms Page said it was upsetting to know strangers had been on the property. She urged the vandals to stay away from the centre.
"Think about what you're doing and know that it's somebody small, it's a small children's environment and it's making them sad, it's making them feel unsafe and it's not fair," she said.
