Toddler hurt after falling from Sydney balcony

A toddler is in a serious condition in hospital after falling about 10 metres from a third-floor balcony at a home in Sydney's inner west.

The 19-month-old boy's father was on the balcony with his son in Balmain when he turned around momentarily to close the door and the toddler fell over the railing about 7pm.

Paramedics treated the child outside the home in Foy Street, before taking him to Randwick Children's Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the fall.

They say the father was believed to be on the balcony of the apartment with his two sons when one of the boys tumbled over the edge.

Anyone who saw the incident and has not yet spoken to police has been urged to contact Balmain Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
