Guy Sebastian sets up home in Gerroa

Australian Idol success story Guy Sebastian should count moving to Gerroa as one of his biggest hits - at least with his young family.

"We're back and forward between here and our house at Clovelly ... we love it down here and the people are really friendly," says wife Jules, who has been knee-deep in renovations this week with 11-month-old son son Hudson on her hip while Sebastian is in Melbourne for an Australia Day gig.

The couple bought the four-bedroom house overlooking Seven Mile Beach in August last year. It was purchased through their company Guytunes for $1.015 million - as the perfect retreat for an outdoor family.

It is no secret Sebastian, 31, likes surfing and that is supported by the five surfboards which are lined up in one of the downstairs rooms.

There is also a large fishing boat parked on the front lawn.

"I'd love to be spending this time on the beach but there's still a lot of work to do," says Jules, a fashion stylist, as she glances at the pile of empty furniture boxes at the front door.

She said since the couple moved in they had "freshened up" the place and refurnished it. Workmen were on site yesterday re-fitting new windows on the back deck to make the most of the views.

The family fell in love with the area when visiting friends and they seem to have settled in without too much hoopla.

Jules said some of the family's favourite haunts were the Gerroa Fisherman's Club and a variety of shops in Gerringong's Fern Street.

While instantly recognisable out shopping, they have been embraced by locals as locals.

Gerringong's newsagent, who did not want to be named, said they were "welcome in the town like anybody else ... I've seen them walking around the place and as far as I can tell they seem down-to-earth people".

"Before the holidays, I saw them heaps and they are lovely," said an assistant in Jocks Bakery and Cafe.

Two teenagers from St Joseph's Catholic High School at Albion Park helped out on construction work on the house as part of their mandatory work experience.
