Man tries to sexually assault teen: police

Police are appealing for help from the public after a 17-year-old girl was the victim of an attempted sexual assault in Berry on Thursday morning.

The teenager got off a train at Berry Railway Station around 12.30am and started walking along Alexandra Street.

The 17-year-old was approached by a man who dragged her into a nearby park and attempted to sexually assault her.

She was able to flee the scene and make her way home, but left behind her shirt and backpack. Police were notified of the attack and Shoalhaven detectives established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist officers.

The man was described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid 20s, of slim build, 170-centimetres tall with short black hair.

At the time of the assault, he was wearing a dark tracksuit top and pants.
