Work has started on a pedestrian tunnel under Keira Street as part of GPT’s Wollongong Central expansion.
GPT development manager Steven Turner said the tunnel was a critical piece of the expansion which would connect the new retail development with the existing centre.
Keira Street will remain open to traffic and pedestrians during construction however only one lane will be open in each direction.
Southbound buses on Keira Street will be affected as one bus zone will be closed next to Wollongong Central.
There will be bus zones open to the north and south of the closed stop.
