MERCURY SERIES: Making A Difference
Shoalhaven City Council staff are among those making a difference in the Nowra community.
Council employees recently collected hundreds of non-perishable food items for All Saints Community Care.
The exercise was part of an annual fund-raising drive for the local charity that has been running for five years.
The added incentive for staff to donate items was the requirement to dress casually for the day. It worked.
More than 19 boxes of tinned meat, vegetables, pasta, condiments and other food items were collected at the council and handed over to the charity.
Many of the items donated by council staff this summer have already been distributed by volunteers who help the charity with its much needed welfare work in the region.
Shoalhaven City Council general manager Russ Pigg said the strategic planning section had managed the collection drive.
"I'm always impressed by the community-minded actions of council staff members," Mr Pigg said.
"All Saints Community Care provides a very valuable service to the local community by providing care and assistance to those in need."
