The Wollongong Hawks have added Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder Mirko Djeric to their roster for the remainder of the 2012/13 NBL season.
The 17-year-old guard was part of the under 17 Australian Emus team that came away with the silver medal at the 2012 Under 17 FIBA World Championships.
One of Australia’s top young prospects, Djeric will be looking forward to the opportunity of being part of an NBL program and at such an early age.
With season ending injuries to Rhys Martin, Lance Hurdle and Glen Saville and a number of players nursing injuries for the remainder of the season, the Hawks felt that it was best to bring in another player to provide another option and to be an integral part of the program for the rest of the season.
‘‘Mirko is a talented Australian junior who is really looking forward to being part of our Hawks program for the remainder of the season,’’ Hawks coach Gordie McLeod said today.
‘‘He brings youth, enthusiasm and talent that will help us at training and games.’’
‘‘We see a tremendous upside in Mirko, this is a great opportunity for him to continue his development with the Hawks and in a professional environment.
‘‘We look forward to him contributing to the program and helping his teammates finish the season off strongly.’’
