Washout helps Dapto in semi-finals bid

ILLAWARRA CRICKET PREVIEW

Dapto want to maintain their charge to the semi-finals while Helensburgh need a win to keep their top two hopes alive in tomorrow afternoon’s  round 14 Illawarra cricket clash at Reed Park.

Dapto and Wollongong capitalised on beating the washout last weekend to claim the maximum 20 points for wins over University and Port Kembla respectively.

Led by NSW Country all-rounder Dale Scifleet’s 7-19, Dapto leapfrogged Corrimal  into fourth.

Wollongong went above Helensburgh into second with a strong six-wicket win over Port, with the Burgh needing to beat Dapto and stay on track for a top two spot so vital if rain is a factor in the semi-finals.

The Burgh won their first top-grade Illawarra cricket trophy last year in beating Dapto in the one-day final.

Meanwhile,  Corrimal were left frustrated by their washout to leaders Keira  in round 13 and will want to beat Wests Illawarra at Figtree Oval.

Keira have a mortgage on the minor premiership and  could all but wrap up top spot with a win over Balgownie at Judy Masters tomorrow afternoon.

University and Port Kembla meet at Uni Oval, while Wollongong host Northern Districts at Dalton Park.

Ladder: Keira 224, Wollongong 170, Helensburgh 167,   Dapto 145, Corrimal 143, Port Kembla 108, Balgownie 90,  Northern Districts 81, Wests Illawarra 49, University 28.
