Crowds and stall numbers were up, and the food and drink was going down well, at the fifth annual Beer, Food and Wine Festival at the Towradgi Beach Hotel yesterday.
Around 6000 people attended the annual foodie favourite which featured around 80 stalls as well as live entertainment, children’s activities and cooking demonstrations from James Reeson from WIN TV’s Alive and Cooking.
Towradgi Beach Hotel marketing and festival manager Jessica Lee said the event was getting ‘‘bigger and better’’ each year.
‘‘Each year we introduce something new – this year it was the live cooking demonstrations with our celebrity chef which proved very popular,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s just a great day out for people, as they can sample what’s on offer from the breweries, wineries and gourmet food producers on site and enjoy the live entertainment.
‘‘There’s plenty for the kids too with a free animal farm, face painting and also plenty of food and drink stalls for them, offering items like fairy floss and ice-cream.’’
There was definitely an international flavour to the event this year, with stalls selling everything from Shanghai dumplings and bratwurst and kransky ‘hut’ dogs to Dutch pancakes, garlic prawns and chorizo.
Breweries and wineries came from near and far to give people a chance to sample their wares.
Steve Harrod, of Logan Wines Mudgee, was just one stall owner who had travelled a fair distance to set up shop.
‘‘It’s such a great festival to take part in as there’s such a variety of people who come from everywhere,’’ he said.
Brendon Van de Moosdyk and Dana Mertens came from Dapto, and they’ll definitely be coming back.
‘‘What more could you want – you get to taste some lovely wine and food, meet up with good friends and enjoy the sunshine,’’ Ms Mertens said.
