Major upgrade for Waterfall station

Waterfall station will be given a major upgrade to make it more accessible to large numbers of commuters.

Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian announced this afternoon that the station would be the site of major works likely to include a new lift, platform roofing, CCTV cameras, improved drop-off zones and upgraded bicycle storage facilities, among other works.

‘‘This will not only benefit local customers who use Waterfall station, but also those commuters from the Illawarra region who travel in their cars and use the interchange,’’ Ms Berejiklian said.

Community consultation will be undertaken into the upgrade before the final design is completed.

It is not yet clear how much the upgrade will cost, or when the work will be done.

Member for Heathcote Lee Evans said the upgraded station would help encourage more people to use public transport.

‘‘This is fantastic news for the community who use Waterfall station, as it is a key station that provides the gateway into the Illawarra,’’ Mr Evans said.
