Early drizzle made way for a sunny afternoon across the Illawarra yesterday but residents shouldn't get their hopes up for the weekend, according to the weather bureau.
Cloudy conditions with some showers are forecast to hang around today, tomorrow and for much of next week.
With mid-February days already getting noticeably shorter, a week of cool, wet weather may dash the hopes of those trying to make the most of the last days of summer.
Temperatures will range from 19 to 23 degrees today, and 18 to 22 degrees tomorrow with showers also forecast.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts this pattern will continue until Thursday - after which there will be little more than a week of summer remaining.
