Man arrested at Unanderra over Sydney shootings

A Bankstown man arrested in the Illawarra on Monday in relation to two shootings in western Sydney will remain behind bars after being remanded in custody yesterday.

Fouad Ekermawi, 35, appeared briefly in Wollongong Local Court on two charges of firing a weapon.

It is alleged he was behind a shooting on February 2 at Bass Hill and a shooting on October 17 last year at Winston Hills.

Ekermawi did not apply for bail and it was formally refused during his brief court appearance.

The matter was adjourned to April 17 when Ekermawi will appear before the court via audio visual link.
