Forecast swells could impact surf comp

Another surging swell is predicted to arrive tomorrow  and may affect the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps in the Illawarra this weekend.

Surfing NSW have talked with many lifeguards, boardrider clubs and surfers in the Illawarra area for options to run in tomorrow’s swell prediction.

Safety for the competitors is the No1 priority for Surfing NSW.

Best possible options to hold the event - based on swell direction - are Killalea State Park (The Farm) and the north end of Warilla Beach.

The two locations are quite protected and much smaller waves are the norm as compared to the open beaches of Wollongong.

An event hotline will confirm the location at 6.45am tomorrow, with the first heat set to start at 8am.

This event provides the final opportunity for the respective winners of the under 13 boys’ and girls’ finals to secure an invitation to attend an all expenses paid, three-day Wahu Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre on March 8-10.
