Charity scammers may be preying on Kiama residents in the wake of Sunday morning's tornado, police have warned.
Lake Illawarra police yesterday said a Kiama resident received a phone call from someone pretending to be selling raffle tickets for the State Emergency Service.
But it was a fraudster trying to cash in on the goodwill after the SES helped so many people this week.
The caller requested credit card details for the raffle tickets, which were supposedly to help the local SES after the storm.
Police said the caller's claim to be helping the SES was false, and warned people to ask for confirmation of identity for any requests seeking donations.
