Cats and kittens will be just as cute but half the price to adopt this weekend at the RSPCA in Unanderra.
The shelter is nearing capacity after the breeding season and RSPCA Illawarra shelter manager Judith Wright said the organisation wanted to find as many homes as possible for the cats in its care.
The RSPCA recently polled Australian's attitudes towards cats and many respondents said they would not adopt a kitten or cat, citing the initial upfront costs as a barrier.
For a limited time, kittens will be available for adoption for $100 while adult cats are $85.
"Cats are ideal pets for today's lifestyles," Ms Wright said.
"Cats are compact, they do not need to be walked, are happy to stay at home on their own and can offer a great deal of companionship."
