LAWN BOWLS
The four winning clubs in round two of Illawarra Zone 16 Grade 1 pennants all dropped at least one rink when another wet Saturday ensured tough conditions in all matches.
With round one washed out the previous week, defending champion Dapto Citizens and grand finalists Warilla escaped with narrow wins, while Wiseman Park were leading Albion Park after about 30 ends when the match was called off due to heavy rain.
Thirroul and Dapto Citizens won one rink each and drew a rink, with Citos's skip Zoran Bosev and his team proving the key rink in a tight 4.5 points to 1.5 points (54-52 shots) win.
Bosev beat Liam Dun 22-12, while Thirroul's Jack Forbes beat Steven Green 22-14 and the other rink between Paul Robertson (Thirroul) and Brian Harriott finished in a 18-18 tie.
Meanwhile, Corrimal won two of the three rinks away to Warilla, but Leif Selby's 34-6 thrashing of Paul Sweeney ensured Warilla won on shots 74-51 and took the match 4-2.
Corrimal's Kyle Johannes had a 21-20 win over Jeremy Henry, while Eric Johannes (Corrimal) beat Aaron Teys 24-20.
In other matches, Oak Flats won two of the three rinks in a hard-fought 5-1 (65-57) victory over Shellharbour, while Figtree RSL also won two rinks in a tight 5-1 (57-55) win over promoted Towradgi Park.
The heavy rain meant not all matches were completed through the seven grades, with Zone 16 officials advising clubs that matches will be rescheduled for the spare weekend of April 13-14.
