A second crane will be lifted on to GPT's West Keira development site today, allowing construction work to speed up.
The crane is 45 metres high with a 60-metre arm.
Wollongong Central manager Dean Young said bringing the crane in would cause less disruption to traffic than the first one, which required the temporary closure of Keira Street.

"The main difference for this crane is that we're actually able to bring it in through the side road, rather than having to close Keira Street. So we're actually bringing it in through Richardson Street," Mr Young said.
"While we'll still have minor diversions in place we're hopefully not going to have the impact of closing something like Keira Street."
Mr Young said the second crane would lead to faster construction of the new shopping centre.
'It means we're getting to that stage of development where we're starting to build on the whole site. Up till now we've been building on one-third, maybe two-thirds, of it."
