Police carry out dawn raids in Illawarra, Sydney

Hundreds of police have carried out dawn raids throughout Sydney and the Illawarra, as part of an ongoing investigation into the supply of drugs and firearms to organised crime groups.

Strike Force Alistair, which was formed in July 2011, has been investigating the supply of drugs, guns and explosives to organised crime groups with some of the items allegedly destined for outlaw motorcycle gangs.

In the Illawarra, the police operation has included Warilla, Croome and Kiama.

Multiple search warrants are underway and a number of arrests have been made. 

The strike force was established by the NSW Organised Crime Squad and the NSW Crime Commission, with assistance from the Gangs Squad.

A media conference will be held this morning.
