Smith's Hill student makes TV appearance

Smith's Hill High School student Naia Webb will star in a new children's television show airing on Television Sydney later this month.

The Woonona year 7 student will appear in an episode of Enquiring Minds, a show aimed at inspiring primary school-aged children to turn their childhood passions into a career through study. As a student reporter on the show, Naia met scientist Kate Lee, who is investigating how well-placed marine protected areas can help conserve wobbegong sharks.

She also went diving with the sharks.

Executive producer Rachel Bentley said the program aimed to inspire disadvantaged primary school children.

"Children always dream of what they want to do when they grow up but often, the serious conversations around university study don't occur until they become teenagers," she said.

"This TV series helps children put themselves into the picture as they meet with adults who share interests developed through study and research."
