LAWN BOWLS
Wiseman Park Wollongong City Bowling Club will be chasing more interstate series following the success of the NSW versus Victoria Tests last week.
Around 300 people watched the two-day series featuring a three-Test mens and womens series, plus two under-25s series.
Wiseman Park's Australian Jackaroo Shane Garvey skipped his rink to three victories, and with former Corrimal star John Green playing as his third they helped NSW to a 2-1 series win.
The NSW and Victoria mens squads included seven Jackaroos, while a host of Australian reps played in the womens series, including Shell Cove star Karen Murphy.
Wiseman Park will share the NSW state pennants Grade 3 finals with Towradgi Park in August and club secretary manager Peter Bott wants more big time bowls at his club.
"The success of this series means we're in the market for more," Bott said.
"It"s been great publicity for bowls in the Illawarra to have so many top players here for the two days.
"The players have loved coming down and the feedback has been very positive about the facilities, how the greens have played and the general set-up.
"It's the first time we've hosted an interstate series and hopefully we can get another one.
"The Grade 3 pennants will be a big event over in August and as a club we're looking to host more high profile events."
