Home-grown triathlete needs your vote

Former Wollongong triathlete Belinda O'Leary has called for some home-town support to get her over the line and into the final of the UAE Ultimate Explorer competition in Dubai.

Ms O'Leary, 30, has been living in Dubai for the past five years where she teaches physical education.

Two weeks ago she took out the Abu Dhabi Sprint Distance Triathlon but now has her eyes on a different prize, the UAE Ultimate Explorer adventure competition, which includes a prize of $135,000 and other inducements.

Already selected in the top 12 from hundreds of entries, Ms O'Leary needs to be voted by the public into the top five by the end of this week for the chance to take part in the final challenge, which will involve a number of tasks over a whole weekend at the end of March.

As of yesterday, she was sitting in fourth place. She said she entered the competition because the prize was just too good not to have a go.

"I would be the first Aussie and also first woman to ever become the UAE Explorer."
