Kiama mayor Brian Petschler will seek the support of his fellow councillors to establish a Mayoral Disaster Recovery Fund when the council meets on Tuesday night.
Cr Petschler said in the wake of the devastation caused by tornadoes on February 24, members of local service clubs and representatives of the Kiama Red Cross branch and the Kiama Salvation Army held meetings to discuss ways in which they could assist residents affected by the event.
Cr Petschler said the idea was to have service clubs raise money for a fund that would be administered by the council.

The distribution of funds would be decided by an advisory committee set up by the group to make recommendations to the mayor.
"We've been very worried about this event having a long tail where people suffer for a long period," Cr Petschler said.
"There is a lot of worry and uncertainty while people go through the process of recovering and rebuilding. This is at least one way of letting people know we are thinking about them."
