Sister acts set to play part for Warilla

TWO sets of Warilla Bowling Club sisters will represent Illawarra at the state championships in senior fours following a thrilling win over Goulburn Railway in the regional playoff.

Leone Barnett and sister Shirley Lindsay plus Julea Morgan and her sister, Emelia West, beat the Southern Highlands champions 21-20 at Kiama Bowling Club.

The Warilla team won the Illawarra senior fours with a hard-fought 27-17 win over Gloria's Hodgson's Kiama team 27-17 in the final.

For Morgan it was her second straight senior fours championship after winning as a member of Wiseman Park in 2012. The Illawarra senior fours championship featured 18 teams and the quarter-finals were held at Wiseman Park BC.

Edith Smith from the host club had a 22-15 win over clubmate Christine Speer, while Hodgson beat her Kiama clubmate Audrey Evans and partners 21-15. Agnes Chalker (Dapto Citizens) defeated Robyn Abernathy (Figtree RSL) 15-13 and Morgan reached the semi-finals with a 28-8 victory over Warilla clubmate Patricia Orgill.

In the semi-finals at Dapto Citizens BC, Barnett returned as skipper to beat Chalker, while Hodgson came from a shot down heading into the final end to defeat Smith 22-21.

Meanwhile, Sue Wood and her Wiseman Park partners Mary Sheather, Helen Hallenan and Gail Schultz won the Illawarra Open Fours crown with a 23-12 win over Dawn Driscoll's Windang team in the final.

The Wiseman Park team were pipped 19-16 by Goulburn Railway in their regional playoff final.

The Open fours also featured 18 teams with Wood (Wiseman Park) beating skip Margot Brandes (Figtree RSL) in one semi-final at Dapto Citizens BC and Driscoll (Windang) overcoming Beverley Paddon (Wiseman Park) in the other semi.
