The Illawarra has its first Miss Sydney Australia winner with Aleisha Brooke-Smith taking out the title in Cronulla on Saturday, a day after she made it through to the state finals of Miss Universe in May.
It was also a good night for Wollongong's Miss World Australia entrant, Jesy Pinkerton, who won the interview award of the statewide Miss Sydney Australia competition.
Both were joined on stage by Australia's 2012 Miss Tourism World pageant representative, Laura Thompson, who enjoyed placing the crown on fellow Jamberoo resident Ms Brooke-Smith.
It was a meaningful action because it was Ms Thompson who suggested she enter this year's Miss Sydney Australia pageant.
She also got to crown the 2013 Miss Tourism World Australia winner, Vivienne Barclay, of Newcastle.
But Saturday was also about family.
Ms Brooke-Smith's parents, Winton and Angela, said they and her brothers, Justin and Kieran, could not be happier.
"She looked so beautiful tonight," Mrs Brooke-Smith said.
"This is her first pageant win. She has worked very hard for it. She has been runner-up in a couple of things but never won anything."
After the pageant win, Ms Brooke-Smith and good friend, Amelia Hallagan, headed back to Torys at the Kiama Inn, where she works, so she could show off her new crown and celebrate. Ms Brooke-Smith also started a second job at the Australia Lock Company at Unanderra on Thursday and said the Miss Sydney Australia title had topped off a great week.
"Today I have just met the most amazing girls. It is the first pageant I have won so I am very happy. And it is good for Jamberoo. I have wanted to be in a pageant since I was about five.
"Modelling is something I have always enjoyed and I really hope to pursue it. This is the industry I want to be in and I have got to give it my best shot now."
Meanwhile, Ms Pinkerton's next goal is to win the "Beauty with a Purpose" category of the Miss World Australia title by raising as much as she can for people in remote indigenous communities.
Her next event is a trivia night at Wollongong Tennis Club on April 24.
