Collegians rugby league club emerged as the white knight by backing the development of the ground, which was redeveloped and reopened at Saturday's Illawarra Coal League game.
But Collegians chief executive Michael Wilkins maintains the new facilities will be used on a user-pays model, with the Illawarra Stingrays the front runners to also occupy the ground. The Stingrays are sponsored by the Collegians Leagues Club.
Wilkins confirmed the club would remove the current posts used at the oval to allow the ground to become a multipurpose facility at the end of the season.
"At the moment the priority is bedding the grass down to settle," he said.
"It's opened for hire and we would look at any options to negotiate a fee for playing.
"Training isn't an option for the ground but we would certainly look at it as a multipurpose venue in future.
"It's sensational to see it a reality, we were very pleased with how it went for the Collies game."
The Mercury understands the Wolves are considering their training and home ground options.
The NSW Premier League outfit was hampered by a shortened pre-season because of washouts and unfit pitches, to the point where they were forced to use North Dalton Park as a training ground.
During their sessions they had to put poles in the ground to use as makeshift goals.
It has been a contributing factor to the season start of three losses and a draw, before they beat Blacktown Spartans last Saturday night.
NSWPL rivals Sutherland and Manly have synthetic pitches, allowing them to train and play in all-weather conditions.
The then Wollongong Wolves used Brandon Park before it was redeveloped as the University of Wollongong innovation campus and then had long been linked to the Lysaghts Oval ground.
South Coast have called John Crehan Park at Cringila home, but some officials regard the prospect of moving as fulfilling their own destiny.
