Every year businessmen and women from Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama don wings and become angels for a day, collecting gold coin donations in their workplace and others.
Alex Filceski, of Alexandar Michael's Clothing for Men in Crown Street has supported the Angels at Work Leukaemia Foundation fund-raiser annually with a $500 donation since it began in 2010.
Despite things being pretty tough in retail he plans to make another large donation this year.
Mr Filceski said one of the reasons why his small business was always one of the biggest givers was he knew people with leukaemia. But it was also about community for the businessman, who sees Wollongong as a village.
As part of that village he feels a sense of responsibility to look out for and find ways to help others.
"I give regularly to Canteen and I support KidzWish. I believe in the philosophy of 'if you give - you receive in life' and 'what goes around comes around'. I do what I can and I hope what I give will help somebody locally and help find a cure for leukaemia."
Remondis and ahm were among many large donors last year.
Among more than 100 supporters of Angels at Work since Beti Krsteski founded the event, have been: Anthony Pickham, Graham Wilson, Bronko Kozel, Graham Lancaster, Melissa Abu-Gazaleh, Greg Fisher, Aaron and Stan Crinis, Mick Lowe, Steve Melchior, Jason Gow, Daniel Hastings, Craig Osborne, Lube Markovski, Lou Niceski, Bob Grbevski, Dee Kramer, Ian Sackett, Jonathan Jooste, Mark Grimson, Les Dion, Toni Minovski, Glenda Papac, Delyse Del Turco, Virginia Wren, Lee Cooper, Greg Thurling, Peter Newling, Nieves Murray, Michael Corban, Nardia Guillaumier, Angela Saville, Michael Bassingthwaighte, Geoff McQueen, Kristina Anastasovski and Steven Padmore.
