A Fire and Rescue NSW crew rushed to the cinemas, located on Memorial Drive, about 10.15pm last night after reports of a car on fire in the car park underneath the theatre.
The blaze was quickly extinguished but the car was totally destroyed by the fire.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said no structural or smoke damage had occurred.
The Shellharbour cinemas’ smoke detectors were activated during the blaze and about 40 movie patrons were evacuated by Greater Union staff.
