Aleisha Brooke-Smith wants to make the most of her opportunity after winning the Miss Sydney Australia title in April.
The 21-year-old's ambition is to become a model but she knows making it to the top means making her mark in the next few years.
She is leaving no stone unturned in taking the next step on that journey.
When she made the NSW final of Miss Universe Australia five weeks ago, close friend Lisa Nixon enlisted the support of her husband, Brandon Nixon.
"I've been training with Brandon at least three times a week," Ms Brooke-Smith said.
"He has got me on a program which is really good.
"He is so helpful and I am so grateful.
"You need to feel good about yourself in a competition like this and with Brandon training me, I am feeling better each day.
"He is the really clean eater but we have got this deal - if I make it through the state final, we get to go and each have a Cold Rock."
Mr Nixon is a plumber by trade. He is studying to be a group trainer and personal trainer through Fitlink online.
"I have also done competitive body building," he said.
"I don't know about beauty pageants but if you are fit and healthy and you look the part, and you have given it 100 per cent, you can be confident in yourself.
"But I have never had Cold Rock."
Ms Brooke-Smith has asked Mr Nixon not to take it easy on her and she is often up for a bit of friendly, good-humoured competition such as comparing muscles or encouraging him to pose for the camera with her in a photo shoot to try and take him out of his comfort zone.
"It is like he is competing with me," she said.
"He is doing the stuff I am doing and pushing me to my limits but I am seeing the results after just five weeks."
