Battleships is the hit single from the album, which has been getting pumped by radio stations all over the country.
As the frontman for Aussie rock legends Powderfinger, who have had five number one albums, Fanning is now focusing on his solo career.
He has lined up a string of shows around Australia as part of the Departures tour, with one of these shows being held at Anita's Theatre, Thirroul in August.
Anita's Theatre only hosts the odd show here and there but is definitely one of the coolest venues around town, with a lot of history behind it.
Bernard isn't the only big deal that is coming to Wollongong's northern suburbs in the coming months.
Aussie rock legends, You Am I will be gracing Waves Nightclub at Towradgi Beach Hotel in August, while Something with Numbers will perform at the same venue in July.
It's always a big plus for our local music scene to see big name acts like Bernard Fanning coming through the Gong and recognising our town as a crucial place to stop as they promote their albums on national tours.
The northern suburbs of Wollongong have been getting a lot of attention from touring acts with places like Towradgi Beach Hotel, The Heritage Hotel in Bulli, Anita's Theatre in Thirroul and Beaches Hotel in Thirroul being some of the biggest hot spots for live music in the Illawarra.
There is definitely no shortage of musos in the northern suburbs as I've been finding out lately by spending more time up that way myself.
Let's hope these bigger touring acts continue to give our local artists a chance to support them at their shows.
Bernard Fanning will be supported by Big Scary and Vance Joy at Anita's Theatre on August 1.
