Wollongong Swim Club's Lucy Cliff is officially the fastest 13-year-old female sprinter in Australia after posting the two best freestyle times this year.
Lucy set the quickest 50m and 100m times in Australia at the Carlile Speedo Cup carnival at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) earlier this month.
While Lucy's 100m time has since been narrowly bettered by a Victorian swimmer, the Wollongong swimmer holds the fastest 50m freestyle time for a 13-year-old. Lucy's sprint times are officially ratified by Swimming Australia.
She swam seven personal best times at the Carlile Speedo Cup which was a winter short course carnival held in the two 10-lane, 25-metre pools at SOPAC.
"Fortunately for Lucy, the carnival was held in the Olympic Pool, where the times are always held in precision and the pool is also recognised as being a 'fast' pool," Wollongong Swim Club president Col Bruton said.
Under coach Chris Buchanan, Wollongong Swim Club's 13 swimmers collected six gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals at the carnival.
Daniel St George won six medals including gold in the open men's 50-metre freestyle, while Australian All-Schools champion Courtney Lendvay won four medals including the 11 years 100-metre freestyle.
Astel Gaviglia (15 years) won two breaststroke silver medals and Izak Delich (16 years), won bronze in the 100-metres butterfly. In the multi-class division, brothers Jarrod and Tarren Dyer won seven medals.
