Fairy Meadow have set themselves some simple objectives when they play second-placed Albion Park in the Illawarra men's hockey match at Croom Road on Sunday.
Fairy Meadow returned to the winner's circle last round with a 3-1 victory over Mittagong on the dreaded road trip to Welby.
Olly Walker bagged a brace while Josh Anderson scored Fairy Meadow's other goal. Nelson Worner was Mittagong's goal scorer.
"We've come off a bit of a losing streak. We had a win last Sunday which has instilled some confidence in the boys," Fairy Meadow captain Tom Walker said yesterday.
"Now we're coming up against Albion Park who are in second place.
"I think this weekend it's more about rebuilding, setting some simple objectives for the game and starting a bit of a step-by-step process towards the finals because our goal is basically to finish [in the] top four. And then if we can get into the semi-finals anything can happen.
"We always play to win but we want to set objectives that our team can definitely achieve leading up to the finals, for example ball movement, possession, penalty corner completions, those types of things that we have some control over."
Albion Park were too strong for Robertson last weekend, winning 8-4.
Bede Gillard (four), Jack Hayes (three) and Shane McLeish were on target for Albion Park.
Robertson's goals came from Nathan Wright (two), Mitch Wright and Ben Donovan.
Unbeaten competition leaders and premiers University will host Robertson at Uni Field on Sunday after thrashing lowly Dapto 13-2 last weekend.
Meanwhile four Illawarra and South Coast players have been selected in the NSW Under 16 All Schools team to contest the Australian titles in Tasmania this year.
They are Brady Anderson (Albion Park High), Joshua Mayo (Kiama High), Mitchell Galea (Figtree High) and Keiren Richards (Edmund Rice College). Thomas Miotto (Figtree High) has been named as a shadow player.
Women's hockey resumed normal rounds last weekend.
Rachel Vaughan scored a hat-trick for University and Holly Warren completed the scoring in a 4-0 win over Fairy Meadow.
Wests Illawarra beat Figtree 1-0, with Jo Morrell scoring the only goal.
In the full round, University ran out 7-0 winners against Figtree, with Vaughan and Warren joined on the score sheet by Sally Johnston (two) Keagan Mitchell, Melissa Davis and Zoe Armstrong.
Avondale downed Fairy Meadow 3-0 in a match that started messy with neither side really playing to their potential.
Fairy Meadow's goalkeeper Kea Hamer kept well, saving anything that came towards her net.
Albion Park continued their good form with a 3-0 win over Jamberoo, while Railway Greys were upset winners over Gerringong 4-2.
Going into round 13, Albion Park are on 25 points followed by University 21, Avondale 17, Gerringong 17, Jamberoo 13, Railway Greys 12, Figtree 5, Wests Illawarra 3, Fairy Meadow 1.
