‘‘I would say their first love is their hot rods while ours is God ... then hot rods,’’ Mr Whitfield said.
‘‘We are just Christian guys that go to church ... we all have good rapport with each other and in fact we have had great support from local clubs like the Odd Rods.’’
Yesterday more than 500 people converged on the Kemblawarra Business Park to view 60 hot rods.
While the aim of Preachers Illawarra is to spread the Christian message among hot rods lovers, yesterday’s charity show and shine was about raising money for the House of Hope Food Barn, the Illawarra’s largest distributor of charity food.
The Warrawong centre relies heavily on donations and fund-raisers and yesterday’s event raised $4232 for the food barn.
The alcohol-free event also included rock’n’roll music and dancing, as well as stalls and food outlets.
‘‘It was very enjoyable day,’’ Mr Whitfield said.
