The symposium was originally initiated by the China University of Mining and Technology and this will be the first time it has been hosted outside China.
Organiser Dr Ting Ren said Wollongong would be visited by a large delegation from China consisting of top researchers and professors from its leading universities, research institutes and mining companies.
Dr Ren said it provided a chance for Australian mine operators and researchers to share their knowledge and experience in "green mining", especially deep and multi-seam coal resources.
The symposium is being supported by UOW as well as local and Chinese companies.
The conference is being facilitated by the newly established Centre for Infrastructure Protection and Mining Safety at UOW's engineering faculty and the State Key Laboratory.
