Mr Zunic, who had worked at both Wollongong and Port Kembla golf clubs, was one of two people transported to hospital after the accident in Little Rock, Arkansas.
It is understood Mr Zunic was sitting in the back seat of a white BMW sedan when it collided with a car driven by a woman.
The car then rolled down the street and hit a pole.
The accident occurred on Saturday in the United States.
It is a setback for the golfer as he was scheduled to compete in the prestigious US amateur championships next week.
The winner of that tournament earns a start in next year’s US Masters.
Mr Zunic had a promising future as a golfer, making the cut for the Australian Open at 18.
He had travelled to the Unites States close to three months ago to further his career, having already played in Europe, Asia and South America.
