The stack will be felled a day earlier, on Thursday, September 5.
Port Kembla Copper general manager Ian Wilson said the change was made to minimise disruptions to nearby residents.
‘‘We’ve been out talking to residents and businesses in the exclusion zone and it’s clear that Friday is prohibitively detrimental,’’ Mr Wilson said.
‘‘As we’re required by our government approvals to conduct the demolition on a weekday, the Saturday wasn’t an option, so we’re moving it forward one day.’’
