A cocktail party in Fairy Meadow this Saturday night will highlight the good work of not-for-profit youth mental health education group, Mind Blank Inc.
The Mind Blank 101 event will also celebrate the close of the SCUBA Initiative – a school touring project that educated over 4000 local high school students about depression awareness and suicide prevention.
Mind Blank Inc managing director Ally Kelly said the preliminary results will be revealed during the cocktail event at The Fraternity Club.
‘‘It’s time to announce to the public some of the results that we have been collecting whilst on tour,’’ she said.
Tour performances have been appreciated by many, including former Lake Illawarra High School teacher Sharna Dawson.
‘‘In my 13 years as a PDHPE teacher, I have never seen mental health been brought to the forefront with such enjoyment, fun and interaction. Their ability to engage students into this taboo topic is brilliant...I can’t recommend this enough,’’ Ms Dawson said.
Miss Kelly said those at the party would also see a demonstration of one of the group’s new project scripts and learn about Mind Blank’s national plan endorsed by 2010 Australian of the Year, Professor Patrick McGorry.
‘‘It is an exciting time for Mind Blank Inc,’’ she said.
‘‘Our ability to impact the Illawarra area has opened doors for us, allowing for customer interest nationwide...but the Illawarra and Shoalhaven districts will continue to benefit from our work as all new project models will be created and launched locally.’’
The Mind Blank 101 cocktail party at the Fraternity Club on Saturday starts at 5pm.
