Work will start on Monday to improve footpaths in the Corrimal Street dining precinct in Wollongong’s CBD.
The work will involve removing unsafe pavers as well as four trees that have lifted the pavement and created trip hazards between Market and Crown streets.
Two new trees will be planted.
There will be minor disruptions along the eastern side of the street between now and November, when the work is expected to be completed.
A new footpath in the style of the one outside the town hall and art gallery will be installed.
A Wollongong council spokesman said the work would make it easier for people to get out of their cars and was designed to improve an ‘‘important dining precinct’’ in the city.
