Wollongong police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a bakery at Thirroul early this morning.
Wollongong acting crime manager detective inspector Darren Kelly said one man entered the bakery on Lawrence Hargrave Drive around 6.40am on Monday and attempted to take cash from a register, while a second man waited in a white station wagon outside.
The man was unable to obtain any cash, and the white station wagon was last seen driving south on Lawrence Hargrave Drive.
The bakery’s owners were in the back of the store during the attempted robbery and it is understood the man fled when they returned to the front.
Insp Kelly said there was nothing to suggest the incident was related to a second armed robbery which occurred in Cringila overnight.
Anyone with information is urged to call Wollongong police station or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
