A pregnant Farmborough Heights woman will remain behind bars after trying to run from police when she was caught with drugs and stolen goods at Port Kembla's Hill 60 on the weekend.
Convicted fraudster Victoria Samantha Cade had been on police bail for less than 24 hours over a separate matter when she was nabbed on Saturday evening.
Officers found Cade with dozens of stolen items in her car including laptops, a DVD player, iPod, athletics medals, fishing trophies, cash, jewellery and a passport and travel documents in another person's name.
Documents presented to Wollongong Local Court yesterday said police were patrolling Hill 60 and surrounds after reports of increased drug activity in the area when they noticed Cade's vehicle parked in a secluded location and went to investigate.
As she exited her car, Cade was seen to shove an orange and yellow cylinder down her pants in an attempt to hide it from police.
Officers eventually found it wedged between her buttocks.
There were multiple plastic bags inside which contained either vegetable matter, believed to be cannabis, or blue pills. A handcuffed Cade told police she was 17 weeks pregnant and asked to be uncuffed to go to the toilet.
However, the 34-year-old absconded, leading police on a chase along a rock shelf towards the ocean.
She was eventually apprehended. Officers who searched her car found more drugs, as well as a cache of stolen items.
Cade told police during a subsequent interview that she had found the items on the foreshore of Lake Illawarra and had hoped to hock some of them to pay for petrol and food.
Facing court yesterday, Cade pleaded guilty to six charges including drug possession, having stolen goods and escaping police custody.
The court heard Cade had been living with her father and could return to his house if released on bail. She admitted to having a drug problem, telling the court she wanted to get professional help.
However, Magistrate Geraldine Beattie said she was concerned Cade would continue offending if released on bail and may not turn up to future court dates. She denied Cade bail and adjourned the matter to August 27.
