The meetings follow the launch this week of the government's discussion paper The Illawarra Over The Next 20 Years.
A planning department spokesman said the forums were central components of the 12-week exhibition of the discussion paper and were designed to maximise feedback.
The first meeting will be at Warilla Bowling Club on October 9.
Other meetings will be at Kiama Leagues Club on October 16, City Diggers in Wollongong on October 17, Woonona Bulli RSL on October 24 and Dapto Leagues Club on October 30. All meetings will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Residents interested in attending a meeting are asked to register at planning.nsw.gov.au/illawarra.
Residents can also read the discussion paper, join the online forum and make a submission at that address.
