Lake Illawarra police local area command has held a workshop for Aboriginal residents aimed at improving relationships between the two groups.
The meeting, held last week, focused on the Aboriginal Strategic Direction (ASD), an overarching document for NSW police guiding its management of Aboriginal issues.
Lake Illawarra liaison officer Layne Brown said the meeting was about seeking Aboriginal community ownership of the ASD.
“The main thing was making the community active and having a say in police issues,” he said.
“It’s obviously…[about] a stronger relationship with the local Aboriginal community.”
About 10 members of the public attended the event.
